Zeda’s Beat Box is a St. Louis based rock and reggae band that mixes English and traditional Hebrew song lyrics. The band creates a unique blend of Jewish tradition with modern pop music that has drawn crowds of both Jewish and non Jewish teens around the Midwest. The bands multicultural appeal has landed them shows in nightclubs, synagogues, and Jewish summer camps.

Zeda’s Beat Box was formed in January of 2007 by Dave Simon, the founder of Dave Simon's Rock School. The band features Simon and four teenagers from Rock School’s All-Star program. Zeda’s Beat Box began performing in synagogues in 2007 but their edgy soulful sound drew attention from the St. Louis rock scene. Simon began writing these new compositions in December of 2006 under the guidance of Rabbi Carnie Shalom Rose, Rabbi Dr. Neal Rose, and Cantorial Soloist Sharon Nathanson of congregation B’nai Amoona.

“Zeda’s Beat Box had campers on their feet dancing for a solid two hours to their high energy blend of rock and reggae.”

“The band’s dynamic mix of Jewish tradition and modern music has landed them shows in both synagogues and night clubs. Bay Area producer, DJ Bradelectro, describes the music as “a cross between Bob Marley, The Clash and Fiddler on the Roof”

“Zeda's Beat Box burst on to the local Jewish and rock scene earlier this year with the release of their 4-song EP Kabbalat Shabbat. The CD received rave reviews by both Jewish and mainstream press and has been hailed as "Jewish music for the masses."

“Some of the highlights on the set list were a Zedafied version of the classic David Melech Yisrael, an insanely catchy Am Yisrael Chai (am yisrael am yisrael am yisrael chai...), and a chilled out Havenu Shalom Aleichem.”

“It is said that rarely is it wise to mix work with religion but luckily Dave Simon did just that and the result was the amazing Zeda's Beat Box.”
